THE JUDICIARY IS AIDING & ABETTING EXECUTIVE IMPUNITY IN KENYA!

Image
Dear Kenyans, The Judiciary under the leadership of Chief Justice Martha Koome has today appalled us and made a mockery of its constitutional role by presiding over the 7.00am swearing in of 50 illegal Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) despite an active case. The case, challenging the appointments of CAS, was due for a mention today at 9.00am. The Judiciary has had numerous opportunities to stop these illegal appointments but failed to act. Instead, the Judiciary by this stroke, is responsible for aiding and abetting impunity. This action undermines the rule of law, and increases the public wage bill, even as Kenyans reel under an economic crisis. When Eliud Matindi and others challenged the CAS appointments, the courts denied them conservatory orders to protect the Constitution. Instead, the court fixed the case for mention (not hearing) today at 9:00am. Yet by sunrise, the same Judiciary had sent a top official to swear in the 50 illegal CAS at StateHouse. These actio...

Police Brutality, Societal Stigma, and the Struggle for Justice Among Gay Kenyan Youths

Image
By John Muthoga Wambugu In Kenya, the question of justice for LGBTQ individuals—particularly gay youths—sits at the intersection of law enforcement practices, societal attitudes, and human rights protections. While the Constitution of Kenya guarantees equality, dignity, and freedom from discrimination, many young LGBTQ persons continue to report experiences that suggest a gap between constitutional ideals and lived reality. This gap is most visible in how some individuals interact with society at large and, in certain cases, with law enforcement institutions. Police institutions are expected to serve as neutral protectors of all citizens. However, human rights organizations and advocacy groups have repeatedly raised concerns that marginalized groups, including LGBTQ youths, may not always experience equal treatment when seeking police assistance. These concerns are not necessarily universal or institutionalized across all police officers, but they emerge in patterns reported by victims...

Standing Proud Against Hate and Intimidation

Standing Proud Against Hate and Intimidation By John Muthoga Wambugu In many societies around the world, the struggle for equality and human dignity continues to shape conversations about justice, identity, and freedom. In Kenya, discussions surrounding LGBTQ rights remain deeply sensitive due to cultural traditions, religious beliefs, and societal expectations. Yet despite these challenges, many individuals continue to stand courageously against hate, discrimination, and intimidation in pursuit of a society built on equality and respect for all people. For years, LGBTQ individuals in Kenya have faced varying forms of rejection and hostility simply because of their identity or association with LGBTQ advocacy. Many people live in silence, hiding their personal lives out of fear of judgment, violence, exclusion, or humiliation. Others endure bullying in schools, rejection from family members, workplace discrimination, online harassment, and social isolation. These experiences often creat...

Government Assaulting Sovereignty of Kenyans

Image
By John Muthoga Wambugu Sovereignty refers to the supreme authority and independence of a state or nation to govern itself without external interference. The present regime is indeed infringing upon the sovereignty of its citizens, it’s  a serious issue that raises concerns about democratic principles, human rights, and the rule of law. Safeguarding sovereignty is crucial for maintaining the rights and freedoms of individuals within a nation. It’s of paramount importance for citizens to actively participate in their country's democratic processes, exercise their right to free speech, and engage in peaceful means of expressing their grievances. Additionally, independent media, civil society organizations, and judicial systems play a vital role in upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens' rights. The reported incidents of violence against journalists in Kenya, as well as concerns over potential internet and media shutdowns, are indeed serious violations of press fr...

How the Healthcare and Education Systems Collapse Under Poor Governance in Kenya

Image
By John Muthoga Wambugu Kenya is often celebrated as one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, a regional technology hub, and a country rich in youthful energy and entrepreneurial spirit. Yet beneath this image lies a painful reality that millions of ordinary citizens experience every day: collapsing healthcare services and a struggling education system. These two sectors, which should form the backbone of national development, continue to deteriorate due to poor governance, corruption, political negligence, and weak public accountability. For decades, Kenyan leaders have promised reforms, universal healthcare, affordable education, and equal opportunities for all citizens. However, recurring crises in hospitals and schools reveal a system overwhelmed by mismanagement and political failure. Public frustration continues to grow as families face overcrowded hospitals, shortages of medicine, teacher strikes, expensive school fees, and rising inequality between the rich and the poor. T...

Digital Advocacy for Queer Rights in Kenya: Visibility, Risk, and the Price of Online Expression

Image
By John Muthoga Wambugu In Kenya and across much of Africa, digital platforms have become powerful tools for civic engagement, activism, and human rights advocacy. For queer rights advocates, social media offers a rare space to speak, organize, and build solidarity in environments where physical spaces may be unsafe or inaccessible. However, this digital visibility comes with significant risks. Online harassment, identity exposure, and coordinated abuse campaigns are common challenges that shape how advocacy is practiced and sustained. In Kenya’s evolving digital landscape, queer advocates constantly navigate a delicate balance between visibility and personal safety. While the internet has created opportunities for empowerment, it has also amplified new forms of vulnerability that extend far beyond the screen. The Rise of Digital Queer Advocacy in Kenya Digital advocacy has become central to LGBTQ+ organizing in Kenya. Platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagr...

Human Dignity Has No Sexual Orientation

Image
By John Muthoga   by John Muthoga Wambugu In every society, human dignity is one of the most important values that people should protect. Every person deserves respect, safety, freedom, and equal treatment regardless of their background, religion, tribe, gender, or sexual orientation. However, in many African countries, including Kenya , members of the LGBTQ community continue to face discrimination, rejection, violence, and isolation simply because of who they are. The belief that some people deserve fewer rights because of their sexual orientation has created fear, suffering, and division in society. Human dignity should never depend on whether someone is heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. In the Kenyan context, discussions surrounding LGBTQ rights remain highly sensitive. Cultural beliefs, religious teachings, and traditional norms have shaped public opinion for many years. Many people view homosexuality as something foreign or unacceptable in African...

Godly Chosen

Image
In the forthcoming election august 2022 the integrity of the nation will be tested, we cannot afford to gamble with our country, we know the value instilled in Martha Karua, a social democrat teaming up with a reformist (RAOKA) against a morally depraved gang of demagogues that have easily persuaded the gullible public to give them a stage so they can impress the delirium. It's only a true revolutionary-democratic system that can instill fundamental changes in the country and liberate the people. The narrative of "bottom-up" is a rhetorical exploit for political purpose in a way calculated to appeal to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people. A good leader must be measured by integrity, empathy, gratitude, courage, and respect but not rhetorics. The Kenya Kwanza team is composed of political demagogues acting as if they are on deranged medication with their sole mission of ravaging the economy. This team deserves a thorough retribution post-election. We'll nev...

Digital Freedom and the Struggle for Public Discourse in Kenya

Image
By John Muthoga Wambugu In recent years, Kenya has experienced a remarkable transformation in the way citizens engage with governance, politics, and public accountability. The growth of social media platforms, independent blogs, digital journalism, podcasts, and online activism has created new spaces where ordinary citizens can voice concerns, challenge leadership, and participate in national conversations. For many young Kenyans, digital platforms have become more than communication tools; they have become instruments of civic engagement, political awareness, and social change. Traditionally, public discourse in Kenya was largely controlled through mainstream media institutions such as television stations, newspapers, and radio broadcasters. While these institutions continue to play an important role in informing the public, the rise of independent digital platforms has significantly altered the information landscape. Today, a blogger with a smartphone and internet connection ca...
